About Conservation

Stewardship of our small corner of the world is something we take very seriously. Our acre of land was a monoculture for decades. Yet despite this, with a bordering marsh and forest, we still have a rich diversity of wildlife. We are regularly visited by Sandhill cranes, hummingbirds, beavers, deer, tree frogs, and an unidentified mustelid among many others. We do not take it for granted, and if anything, hope to encourage it.

Our annual flower crops benefit our pollinators, amphibians, and birds greatly. However, we are taking a more active approach to increasing our farm biomass. This includes creating pockets of native plantings around the farm, creating varying habitats for overwintering, and investing in native perennials that help feed our winter wildlife.

  • Rusty-Patched Bumblebee

The Minnesota State Bee needs our help! Critically endangered, Bombus affinis can be found in the grasslands and prairies around the Twin Cities. Find out what we are doing, and how
    you can help as well.

  • Habitat Creation

Our annual cut flowers can only sustain pollinators for a limited time. Since not all birds fly south in winter, we want to help sustain a habitat that supports the toughest Minnesota wildlife.

  • The Monarch Mission

In 2024 we are starting a large-scale planting of food and habitat plants for the Monarch butterfly. The Monarch migration is so vast it takes 3 generations of butterflies to complete. We think they’ve earned a reward for making it this far North.
