About Our Farm

Bloem is a small family farm located in Chaska, Minnesota, with a full-acre field dedicated to growing annual cut flowers. Our start was made in early 2020 creating farmers’ market bouquets and arrangements for small events. Since then, we have scaled up in both size and experience and are now happy to announce wholesale availability of our product for local florists and event planners.

Our name Bloem (pronounced ‘bloom’) means flower in Dutch, the national language of the Netherlands. This small country in Europe is the largest flower producer in the world and exports $3 billion worth of cut flowers every year. However, because we are becoming evermore conscious of our delicate ecosystem and the impact we have on it, the only thing we have decided to import from the Netherlands is our farmer-florist.

Meet our Farmer-Florist

Jess is a Dutch-born scientist who specialized in Infectious Diseases. While helping to fight the pandemic with the Minnesota Department of Health, she started to dabble in growing tomatoes and herbs, accidentally reviving an old love for growing plants from seed in Opa’s greenhouse.

Her innate passion for nature means Jess has always been a conservation enthusiast. She brings a unique perspective from decades of living in a population-dense, nature-sparse country that must work hard to maintain its natural diversity.

Starting with cut flowers, Jess hopes to build a local fresh food and flower farm capable of producing even in the harshest Minnesota winter. Utilizing climate-friendly solutions will be central to her farm plans, including geothermal greenhouses and solar energy production.

Meet our Courier

Andy is Minnesota-born and raised on a farm in Chaska. He has always been technically inclined and studied Media Arts in Minneapolis with a focus on animation. He now owns a small apparel design and printing company, Say Something Design.

Besides running his own business, he is also helping Jess build and maintain a flower farm using technology to overcome the realities of farming in Minnesota. His insight and technical know-how will be crucial in creating a sustainable and modern farm. He will also be the person delivering your orders.

Andy is enthusiastic about creating a farm model that can be used as an inspiration for others. He understands that by utilizing technology to streamline the production of heat, energy, and crops, we can help provide a year-round model for other small farms like ours.
